Feel your own energy

I know this theme sounds a little “woo-woo,” but if you’ll humor me for 10 seconds, try this. Rub your hands together as fast as you can and count to 10, then stop. Notice what your hands feel like. Can you feel them vibrating a little more noticeably than before? You can do this exercise any time to remind yourself that there is always energy flowing through you at different vibrations.

Think about listening to loud music and how you’d feel differently if the music were scream-o music or if it were a calm harp playing. The different styles change the vibrations in your body to match their output.

Why does this matter? We are all born with our own unique vibrational frequency. That’s why some people you meet are always bouncing off the walls, and others are more subdued. Neither is better nor worse than the other; they’re just different.

This is true on a molecular level. Molecules need to vibrate at complementary frequencies to merge, or they repel each other. These vibrations, based on the makeup of the molecules, are what create the chemical reaction. There have even been some Energy Medicine studies that show a connection between a person’s vibration and the treatment of diseases like cancer, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and more.

So, how does being aware of the fact that we are always vibrating to the beat of our own drum help us be 1% better?

First, it helps strip away the curse of comparison. You are, to your core, different from anyone else. So when you feel like you are “too much,” or you can’t keep up with other people, or whatever it is, remember that’s not true because you’re just being yourself and that’s awesome!

Second, it’s going to help you get back in touch with how you ideally want and need to feel. If you’re doing an activity and it feels “off,” then stop, take a few breaths, and ask yourself what would feel good right now?

One thing I like to do is carve out one day or at least half a day every two-ish weeks where I have no obligations. I just wake up and go through the day doing only what feels right in each moment. Strangely, I find that I’m more active, creative, and productive on those days, even though my goal is to go through the day with as much ease as possible. It reminds me of the activities that make me feel alive and happy.

How can you get 1% more in touch with your own personal vibration today? How can you find opportunities to do things that light you up and make you feel like the happiest, healthiest, best version of yourself (whatever “best” means to you)? And at the very least, can you gently remind yourself that you are a unique vibrational being and there is no one else on Earth like you, so it’s okay to be yourself.
