Fake It 'Til You Make It: The Science of Feeling Rich
Drumroll please...
As a writer, sometimes I get an idea. I naturally think it’s the best, most unique idea I’ve ever had, only to find out it, in fact, has been done once, twice, maybe even thrice by other people.
But that wasn’t the case with “Fake It ‘Til You Make It: The Science of Feeling Rich.” And I am so excited for people to learn about how to feel just as rich as a millionaire, no matter what your bank account says.
There’s evidence that just by being in the energetic state of “wealth,” you naturally attract more. You know how they say, “When it rains, it pours?” Well, my goal for this book is that by the end, if you do the exercises and really shift your mindset, you’ll be primed for the most abundant time of your life.
This abundance comes in all forms. Someone might have a fat bank account, but they feel they’re lacking in love in their life. Chances are (and this is backed by science, which you’ll learn about in the book) that they actually have a ton of love in their life, they’re just focused on the wrong thing.
“Wealth” isn’t a one-size-fits-all, but whatever it means to you, you can have it right here and now. This is why you may see someone who is “low income,” but they’re the happiest person you’ve ever met. Or you’ll see someone who has a “high net worth,” and they’re so miserable that they constantly feel the need to numb themselves with drugs and alcohol.
So, where does the “fake it” come in?
As you’ll learn (and probably already know), our brains are tiny, powerful computers that are always learning and adapting. Sometimes, they adapt to us feeling bad about something. Which means that we need to decide to “fake it” until our brain catches up with our decision. Here’s an example:
Jerry feels like the world is against him. He didn’t get a promotion, his girlfriend left him, and his company is forcing him to get a professional certification that he doesn’t want to spend his time on.
Here’s what’s also true: Jerry has a job that is so specialized it requires specific certifications, which his company is paying for! And once he’s done, that promotion is his the next time around! As for his girlfriend, Jerry has a tight-knit friend group who is there for him at the drop of a hat.
Even though it may not feel like it, Jerry is surrounded by job opportunities and love from his friends. He just has to act like it until his brain catches up with his reality.
Fast forward one month: Jerry’s certification program has made him feel so confident that even though he didn’t get a promotion (yet!), he still got a raise! And by choosing to receive the love from his friend group instead of wallowing, he’s already met someone new whose life plan perfectly aligns with his.
When we feel a certain way, we inevitably act that way (or fake it), and then life just naturally becomes that way.
Your brain wants you to be right, so when you believe something is true, it looks for evidence of that in your environment. If you tell yourself you’re rich, then your brain will look for evidence that it’s true, and then that evidence helps reinforce that you were correct, you are rich.
Over the next few months, for paid subscribers, I’ll publish two chapters of the book every Wednesday, so you’ll have time to digest and work through them. You’ll also be getting the entire text of the book well before it publishes, as well as a free ebook download once it’s live.
If you are as excited as I am and want to support the book, it’s available for presale for $0.99. Presales hit the charts all at once on launch day, so they help give the book visibility.
I’m so excited to go on this journey with you! And please give me feedback to share how it’s going.
With gratitude,
Natalie
